•  Travel Throughout the South East of Scotland with Just One-Ticket

•  ‘One-Ticket' Launched for Bus and Train Travel

Travelling across south east and central Scotland has been made even easier today, (21 May 2007) with the launch of One-Ticket's new rail and bus ticket. The new ticket allows travellers the freedom to hop on and off buses and trains throughout east and central Scotland, using just one ticket.

A host of bus and train operators have come on board to create the new One-Ticket, including First ScotRail, NXEC (formerly GNER), Virgin Trains, Lothian Buses, First Edinburgh, Stagecoach, E&M Horsburgh, Autowater, Eve Cars & Coaches and many more.

Covering 59 rail stations across east and central Scotland, including West and East Lothian, Fife, Stirling, Dundee and Perth, One-Ticket makes travelling across the South East of Scotland simple, convenient and above all, cost effective.

The new 7 day, month and annual tickets will be available from staffed rail stations within the One-Ticket area. Bus only tickets will remain widely available from over 600 Paypoint outlets, online and by phone.

John Elliot, Chairman of One-Ticket said: “The introduction of rail with bus ticketing across the full east and central Scotland marks an exciting transition for One-Ticket. We hope to build on the success of the existing ticket, which is primarily for bus travel, and create an integrated transport network benefiting the economy, the environment and most importantly people traveling in Scotland.”

SEStran Chair, Councillor Russell Imrie, said: “SEStran welcomes the launch of One-Ticket's new rail and bus ticket. Travellers can now mix and match bus and rail services to suit their needs. We aim to make public transport the travel mode of choice for most people living and working in east and central Scotland. To achieve this, we need services that are affordable, integrated, flexible and easy to use. What could be more convenient than having one ticket for any journey?”

Imrie continues: “It is a common sense approach towards public transport that will encourage people to use buses and trains as a hassle-free alternative to driving. It increases their transportation options and should help reduce traffic congestion and pollution. It may also contribute towards economic development, by making it easier and cheaper for people to travel around the region to seek work. “

Peter Williams of First ScotRail added: “ In delivering a significantly extended One-Ticket offer, we are delighted that more people then ever in Central and South East Scotland will be able to take advantage of greater convenience and flexibility when using public transport. We fully embrace integrated travel and look forward to delivering even more opportunities alongside our industry partners ”.

Bill Campbell, Operations Director of Lothian Buses commented: “ One-Ticket has for some time offered customers a flexible and cost effective way to travel and we are delighted to be a part of the expanding service. The new ticket combining rail and bus travel will build on the benefits One-Ticket currently offers and will provide an even better range of excellent value travel options for our customers.”
